Off-Campus Transportation:

Yellow Checker Cab

Yellow Checker Cab has wheelchair lift-equipped vans available through an affiliated service, LifeRides. Prices vary based on mileage, time of day, wait time, etc., and 24-hours advance notice is preferred but not mandatory. The driver is equipped with a pager if the pickup times are difficult to determine.

Serra Yellow Cab has a wheelchair-accessible van available and offers a 10% discount for seniors and people with disabilities in San Mateo County.

Outreach Paratransit of Santa Clara County

Outreach Paratransit users must apply for services, must have a doctor's certification as verification of disability, and must participate in a phone interview. Transportation is available at all times, except between 2–5 am, seven days/week, and reservations require 24-hours advance notice; cancellation requires a minimum of 2 hours in advance, or a fee will be incurred.

Redi-Wheels

Redi-Wheels is a transportation service for people with disabilities who cannot independently use the regular SamTrans bus service. Redi-Wheels services San Mateo County and the City of Palo Alto. RediCoast services San Mateo County coastside. Each one-way trip costs $3.75. Transportation is available seven days/week, including holidays, 5:30 am – midnight and up to 24 hours in some areas. 24-hours advance notice for reservations is encouraged.

Enterprise

Enterprise provides a range of Adaptive Driving Devices for their customers with disabilities, including hand controls, left foot accelerators, spinner knobs, and pedal extenders. Such devices are available at no additional charge. They may require up to 2–3 business days' notice for vehicles equipped with Adaptive Driving Devices, depending on the branch location where such a vehicle is requested. However, at certain major airport locations, vehicles equipped with Adaptive Driving Devices may be available with as little as 8–24 hours advance notice. Contact them directly to inquire.

Uber

The Uber app provides affordable rides in wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAV), where available. Riders who use motorized wheelchairs or scooters can, in certain cities, request a ride in a WAV. WAV driver-partners are certified by a third party in safely driving and assisting people with disabilities. Visit this Uber page for more information.

Lyft

The Lyft app allows passengers with accessibility needs to enable Access Mode. In certain markets, when Access Mode is enabled, passengers may request a specially outfitted vehicle to accommodate a full-sized, non-foldable wheelchair. In markets where those vehicles are not available, Drivers are still required, by law and Lyft's policy, to transport riders who use foldable mobility devices. Airport Transportation:

Caltrain

Caltrain has a wheelchair-accessible train and provides rail service between San Francisco and San Jose, with weekday commute hour service to Gilroy.

SamTrans has a wheelchair-accessible bus, and the San Mateo County Transit District provides SamTrans bus service throughout San Mateo County and into parts of San Francisco and Palo Alto.

Disability Parking and Enforcement Information

Disability Parking: If you have a state-issued (any state) disability parking placard or plate, you may park in the following parking spaces on campus:

  • Designated blue disability parking spaces
  • Service vehicle spaces (posted time limit may apply)
  • Commuter ("A" or "C") and residential permit spaces
  • Metered/visitor pay parking spaces, except:
    • Li Ka Shing Center/Beckman lot (L-15): "Pay-by-space-number" is enforced at specific parking spaces.
